Haters will hate, but free style rapping is fun as hell. The urge to bust a rhyme is orgasmic at worst, especially when in the creative pocket. Everyone person that has ever played an instrument or sport or done anything creative knows about the pocket. It’s that moment, that epoch in the fabric of time, when the universe burps out a whispery worm hole of creativity, something that connects itself to one person, or many at a time (the Renaissance, Radiohead, ect.) to become something truly mystical . Successful individuals who have experienced this through their art and most notably via careers in the spotlight will look back on the work that was born out of unexplainable creativity and be surprised and silence by the awesomeness of the moment. Bob Dylan in an interview (posted below) appears alienated form his body, unable to communicate when questioned about the mental and metaphysical dwellings from which his songs had grown.
One thing of many is true about the pocket, it can not be sewn or stitched, glued or manufactured, it can sometimes be manipulated but the mental and physical costs unexpectedly or over time take a substantial due, it can not be simulated, mirrored or faked, but those that try and get close are great in their own right. (The Beatles, Rolling Stones) And those that don't, never recover.
As all talents are unique to the talented, they must be guarded and kept secret until the mood is warranted. Teddy Roosevelt said once on a trip to Africa to "speak softly and carry a big stick" co mingling political and philosophical advice to illustrate the tactual signifigance of holding more then you show. In this same sauce pan of crispy colloquialisms, it must be noted right away that there is a time to get lyrical and a time to not. Everyone at a party in our Musical State has heard there own rendition of a late night party crasher sounding like a first grader attempting to read for the first time as he or she (I have seen many girls fall victim) set down their drink and turn to the creative juices.
The point of freestyle is to have fun, maybe hit the pocket but probably not, impress friends, and have a good time with word of mouth story telling and songs.
You can really surprise your self, but the point is surprise your self in private, surprise others in public. I do most my soliloqist flowing alone in the car on short drives. I have spoken my best rhyme or two traveling to Wally Mart or Burger King in the car over a beat that already had someone rhyming or singing to it.
After testing what works and doesn’t and flirting around with some rhyme skills, don’t throw out those syllables you naturally move toward, use them, and of course you got to turn up some of the greats, I turn to BIG most often, its time to take that energy to a few friends.
Getting a group together and rhyming can be the most entertaining thing you do together when it flows well and even when it doesn't. If getting high and drinking is how you unwind, and most days I personally love to unravel, it is fun to exercise the minds custom function on a lyrical sense after a few libations. This being said, I don’t assume being under the influence is the best way to get at the best rhymes, but it is fun as hell, and reaching for something new to say in an altered if not changing mood, creates some wacky if not hysterical lyrical voodoo.
Have fun and I hope this was interesting for you. And please let me know if you want to make rhymes sometime. I would love to be there.

I have digressed. The pocket will need more attention soon. Another moment in self preservation will surely visit it shortly.

Don’t be shy and give it a try. Practice, but know in the realm of creativity, of which we all belong, creativity is in itself perfect while at the same time the furthest thing from perfection.
